HC orders to formulate rules to assess disable students’ answer sheets

Shawdesh Desk:

The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to formulate rules within three months to assess the answer scripts of students with disabilities in public examinations.

Education and social welfare secretaries, and chairmen and controllers (Exam) of all education boards have been asked to execute the order.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order on August 22. The full text of the verdict was released on Monday, said Julhas Uddin Ahmad, lawyer of writ petitioner Mostafizur Rahman.

Mostafizur’s son Mostafa Masud who is physically challenged participated in the Junior School Certificate (JSC) exam in 2016 and failed to come out successful in two subjects.

Although Mostafizur applied for the reassessment of the answer sheet to the controller, no step was taken in this regard.

Later, he moved the High Court and filed the writ petition in 2017 seeking separate rules in assessing answer scripts of students with disabilities.

Mostafa Masud was promoted to the next class after the HC issued a rule in this regard.

In 2019, Masud again failed in two subjects in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination and Mostafizur again filed a supplementary appeal with the HC for a reassessment of his son’s answer sheet.

After hearing his appeal, the HC had issued a rule over the matter
